A Measured Response

Everyone has fluctuations in their moods. This is quite normal and a necessary function of the central nervous system (an equilibrium). However when moods become extreme and interfere with an individual’s day to day living this is when it becomes problematic and unhealthy. In essence it could be likely that the illness that is formed is Bipolar Disorder. Deep depression intertwined with euphoria at times can be very destructive. Somewhere between these two states of mood there can be a period of normality. For others the transfer from one extreme mood states to the other can be more dramatic. Basically the Bipolar illness is unique to every individual as there are many variables at play in the mind of a sufferer. There are many types of Bipolar disorder. As already indicated Bipolar 1 will be the main point of discussion. That is when a person has depressive and manic episodes. In the manic phase there can be: 1) psychosis; 2) mania usually over an extended period of time; 3) functionality is impaired in an excessive manner. The depressive side of it must go for more than two weeks and has a detrimental effect on a person’s ability to carry out their lives. https://www.blackdoginstitute.org.au/resources-support/bipolar-disorder/ https://www.webmd.com/bipolar-disorder/guide/bipolar-disorder-symptoms-types
Bipolar is a complex disorder which undermines the health of an individual’s mood; experiencing manic symptoms at one extreme and depressive symptoms at the other. Somatostatin and dopamine are once again implicated and play very important part in this illness. They affect many different aspects of the CNS and bring to the table qualities that are essential for a healthy mind. Dopamine the neurotransmitter for reward needs closely monitoring and is offset by somatostatin in an indirect manner. If dopamine begins to spike, it is integral for somatostatin to be able to react in a measured response. When a person that suffers Bipolar 1, has a sleep disturbance or lack of sleep Dopamine spikes as a
result of this. It is important that this has somatostatins attention. https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/9358395/
